Help with Scope base and mounts

I need a base and rings for a Savage 12fvss.

Its a Short action .308

Is there any source thats pretty clear and easy to find out whats available and what to get.

The Savage is a top load so I would like one that leaves as much room as possible for the fingers to push down into the Magazine while loading.

Appreciate some help hwith this.

Thanks

Weaver 61 and 46 for the 2 part base system.

Get high rings if you want more room and to use iron sights.

Do you have a favorite source for these? Why are these better than others?

I know nothing about this part of rifles.

If they make them for a model 12VSS, how about one of these bases, either one piece or two. Very popular. Use with appropriate Leupold rings which lock-in rock solid. Have a gunsmith install rings properly, with an alignment tool.

Get steel bases, one piece. Steel rings, too. Look at the Savage Shooters Forum, they will tell you which kind. Unless you're using iron sights mount your scope as close to the barrel as possible.

Three years ago I was planning to purchase the exact same rifle and caliber. I did a lot of research but ended up with a Ruger instead, which was a mistake. Anyway my memory fails me sometimes but I think the name is Farrel mounts. You can even get them with twenty thosandths of an inch taper so you can zero in on 700 yard targets without running out of adjustment in your scope.

Re: Help with Scope base and mounts

I have used Leupold's patented steel one-piece bases and rings for years on my Remington 700 VSSF and 40X. They are both tack drivers and shoot in the .25 to .50 range. I doubt there are any significantly better scope bases invented in the last 30 years. The windage adjustment feature alone is one of the reasons I highly recommend them.

I have a 10FP and a 110 both in .308 the 10FP has Warne 20 MOA base and Smith Rings the 110 has a Std. Warne base and Big River rings

Ken Ferrell is also highly recommended
